LAUDI DUECENTESCHE
The organ and the voice Vol.1
Italian vernacular sacred songs of 13th century
transcribed and arranged by Marco Sofianopulo

Georgia Balabini, soprano Magdalini Kalopana, organ

Twenty-one (21) medieval Italian hymns from 13th and 14th centuries with religious and secular themes. Marco Sofianopulo (1952-2014) transcribed and edited the melodies from the surviving codices of Florence and Cortona. The corresponding edition was taken from the Thomas Tamvakos Archive of Greek Composers.

Soprano Georgia Balabini specializes in medieval and renaissance repertoire, while musicologist and organist Magdalini Kalopana has many years of experience perfrming liturgical music for organ and voice. The accompanying texts in the cd booklet were written by Panagiotis Adam and Thomas Tamvakos. Artist Marios Fournaris produced the artwork and graphic design of the booklet.

This recording of Laudi Duecentesche an international first. It is also the first recording for voice and organ produced in Greece.

This edition is sponsored by the Union of Greek Composers.
